wednesday addams collar • free pattern
At this point it’s a running bit that I throw together a slapdash Wednesday Addams costume at the last minute every year. This has been going strong for at least 8 years now because it is truly the perfect last-minute costume - all you need is a black shirt, a makeshift collar, hair long enough to braid, and an RBF. Since I picked up knitting in late 2020, now I obviously have to incorporate that into my last-min costumes!
It’s been fun seeing a huge wave of Wednesday Addams inspo since the Netflix show came out, so hopefully this quick scrap project can help out anyone else who wants to be Wednesday for next halloween!
Pattern
Yarn: Aran/Worsted weight (I used Wool and the Gang Shiny Happy Cotton)
Needles: US7 / 4.5mm flat or circular needles
Cast on 80 stitches with long-tail cast on.
Setup Row 1: Knit across all stitches
Setup Row 2: Knit 2 stitches, turn work (using German Short Rows technique), and knit back to the start of the row.
Now you’ll follow this repeat:
Row 1: Knit to 2 stitches past the last point at which you turned, turn. (Note: you can see the last place you turned by looking for the double stitch. When you pass one of these, knit both legs together like a k2tog, through the front legs.)
Row 2: Knit to end of row
^ Repeat this 2-row sequence 6 total times (12 total rows).
Next Row: Knit across the whole row.
Now do the same 12-row short-row sequence as above, but on the opposite end of the collar.
After finishing the second short-row sequence, knit across all stitches for 6 rows.
Bind off all stitches with regular bind off.
How to wear: Drape the collar around your neck so that the cast-on edge is closest to your neck. Use a safety pin to pin the collar closed and attach it to your top. If you wanna get fancy, you could also sew on a hook & eye closure at the top of the collar.
