gilmore girls: fall & winter knitting patterns (lorelai)
(Find my knitting inspo for Rory here!)
Here are 20+ of my knitting pattern picks for Lorelai Gilmore, half of the beloved Gilmore Girls duo. She’s got a wide range of 90s business babe work outfits, cozy sweaters, slinky date night looks, and eclectic around-the-house outfits.
Lorelai Gilmore inspired knitting patterns
Lorelai contains multitudes, obviously, and so does her style. But let’s start with her 90s business babe work outfits, since I picture her in a turtleneck tank in my head.. You thought we were done with turtlenecks after all the options in the Rory post?! Think again! This time we’re throwing in some more fun variety though.
The Tonight Top is the perfect version of the mock-neck tank (and I generally love this designer’s patterns!), but the Roll Neck Vest is a cute option too! The Livvy Pullover captures the y2k foldover neck trend (which I feel like is poised for an imminent comeback). I feel like a current-day Lorelai would totally rock a shrug & tank set like the Night Life Shrug & Top.
Okay, my final turtleneck suggestions (I swear). The Biella Sweater and Sweater No. 16 are both cozy ribbed options, while the Koi Turtle and the Norma Jean turtleneck both give a more classic fitted look that I think Lorelai would love.
Lorelai also loves a little collared shirt worn under a deep v-neck vest. I think the deep v-neck of the Semper Slipover would be perfect with a collared shirt underneath!
We also see Lorelai in some flirty nighttime date looks! She loves to layer a little shrug over top of flirty midi-length dresses, and also wears a lot of wrap dresses. I love when she wears some 60s-inspired tops with neck details or cut outs!
The Palmier Sweater Sleeves are a cute tie-front shrug option to pair with your own flirty dress. The Lunch At Tiffany’s Blouse & Dress both capture the wrap dress look, and the dress would look extra Lorelai paired with some knee-high leather boots. And lastly, I actually knit my own version of the Boob Window Top and can confirm it makes me feel like a sexy 60s spy!
Lorelai’s quirky and casual too though!!! She’s not all sexy date nights and business brunches!!! Her off-the-clock style leans sporty, playful, and youthful. Lots of raglans, patchwork, and graphic tees (also she clearly loves the raglan tee & bandana combo??).
The Consider This My Olive Branch sweater is actually apparently a Schitt’s Creek reference, but the fit and graphic design feel super Lorelai to me! The Three-Strand Sweater and the Please Do Not Go sweater both fit the sporty raglan vibe too. And last but not least, the Brightest Tee is the perfect baby tee to make in a fun hot pink color (how perfect is this sample’s color for Lorelai’s iconic laundry-day outfit?) or to embroider a graphic tee design on the front of!
