gilmore girls: fall & winter knitting patterns (rory)

I’ve pulled together over 40 fall and winter knitting pattern roundup, inspired by your two favorite fictional characters named Lorelai Gilmore (…okay, one goes by Rory for short)!

Been coveting Rory's giant cabled sweater for the last 20 years? I got you. Been meaning to make a turtleneck? Say no more... Plus I can't help but throw in some random things that just make me think of them and their giant wardrobes! Knit your own cozy ribbed & cabled sweaters, hat & skinny scarf sets, shrugs, baby tees, and anything else your y2k-loving little knitterly heart might wanna work on while sipping coffee and binging Gilmore Girls as the weather gets cold :)

This post will cover my picks for Rory, and the next one will cover Lorelai!

Rory Gilmore KNITTING patterns

Of course we have to start with THE Sweater — the one Rory wears in the pilot episode. I’d argue this oversized Aran fisherman sweater is actually a departure from the more fitted styles she wears in the rest of the show, but it’s one of the most memorable for sure.

The Gema Sweater has the same motif down the front of the sweater, and makes the perfect Rory Sweater if you size up! The Honeycomb Aran, Moby Sweater, and Maurizio Sweater all capture the same classic cabled crewneck pullover vibe.

If you want to channel the same look but with a different silhouette, I think the Sveaborg Pullover and the Folklore Cardigan both fit perfectly! And for a slightly more modern and minimalist take on the cabled sweater, Sweater No. 15 and Sweater No. 20 are both great options (I’ve actually knit the Sweater No. 15 twice and found it to be a great pattern!).

For another early high school style, the Double Date sweater was designed based off a sweater Rory wears on a (you guessed it) double date in the show. Very cozy oversized 90s vibes!

Moving on to Rory’s more grown-up style, she tends to wear fitted sweaters with some kind of interesting neckline detail— whether boat necks, or some embellishing detail.

The Mycroft Sweater and the Kira Sweater both have interesting neck details that I think capture this element! The Hourglass Sweater sadly doesn’t seem to be available online anymore, but I wanted to include it just for inspo’s sake!

Rory also loves a little fitted turtleneck, especially with some ribbed accents! I still think weekly about her turtleneck + wool mini + tights look on the left..

The Helia Sweater has interesting texture along the sleeves, like Rory’s blue sweater above — and the Vertical Stripes sweater, Hazel Sweater, and Metropolis turtleneck all have not-too-oversized fits with cozy ribbed details.

And a few last random Rory styles to round things out - a classic preppy v-neck sweater, an off-the-shoulder going out sweater, a tweed skirt, and a blue cabled hat…

For these looks, I’d suggest the BombNal Sweater, the Prima Pullover, the Sirius Skirt, and the Rory Gilmore Hat.
