SIZING & FIT
Sizes: (1; 2; 3) (4; 5; 6) (7; 8; 9). See the sizing chart in photos to choose a size based on your bust measurement. This cardigan is intended to be worn with 0.75” (2 cm) of negative ease at the bust, 2” (5 cm) cm of positive ease at the waist, and 8” - 25” (20 - 63.5 cm) of positive ease at the hip to form a ruffled peplum hem. The waist and underbust both cinch in with i-cord ties that let you choose your own fit at the underbust and waist, but the pattern also has suggestions on how to customize the fit. If your bust proportions differ greatly from the standard sizes in the chart below, I recommend choosing a size that best fits your upper bust circumference, which is the circumference of your chest just below your underarms. The pattern has suggestions on where you can modify the bust and waist.

TECHNIQUES & DIFFICULTY LEVEL
This pattern is recommended for intermediate knitters, as there are a few cases where you may want to modify it for your own body, as well as keep track of multiple things at one time (like increasing at both the neckline and the armhole. Some of the techniques used:

  • German short rows

  • left- and right-leaning increases & decreases, both knitted & purled

  • picking up stitches

  • knitting flat and knitting in the round

  • i-cord bind-off

NEEDLES, TOOLS & NOTIONS

  • US 7 (4.5 mm) knitting needles with a cable or length that is longer than your full bust circumference; these will be used for knitting the body flat

  • US 7 (4.5 mm) & US 4 (3.5 mm) double-pointed needles, or circular needles with a long enough cable for magic loop; these will be used for knitting the sleeves and sleeve cuffs in the round

  • a spare knitting needle (can be US 7 / 4.5 mm or any size smaller), for folded hems

  • 4 locking stitch markers

  • measuring tape, tapestry needle
